In order to spread awareness about pests and raise money for charitable causes, Rentokil hosts numerous edible insect eating events throughout the year. Pestaurant events are free to the public and offer unique dining experiences of sweet and savory edible insects.
Rentokil first hosted a Pestaurant event in Washington, D.C. on June 4th, 2014. The event in the nation's capital was a part of a global Pestaurant event, spanning 11 other countries around the world. Since then, multiple Pestaurants have been hosted throughout the U.S. by the Rentokil family of pest control companies. Stay tuned to this page for updates on Rentokil's latest Pestaurant events.
Alpha Ecological Pest Control and Eden Advanced Pest Control Technologies, both Rentokil companies and two of the Northwest’s leading providers of expert pest management services, will host a Pestaurant event in Portland on September 27th at OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) during OMSI’s Harvest Festival.
The free event is open to the public and corresponds with the last Sunday Parkways of the year, which will loop over the new Tilikum Crossing in Portland.
At Pestaurant, in addition to sampling the edible insects, visitors can participate in the “Pestaurant Challenge”, the event’s extremely popular cricket-eating contest for a prize. For each person who tries a tasty insect or participates in the challenge, the two companies will make a donation to OMSI as they are a nonprofit based educational institution.
With the creative support of the Executive Chef of Bon Appétit at OMSI, Ryan Morgan, Alpha and Eden will be serving an array of exotic cuisine that includes edible insects and tasty bug snacks that highlight our local crops and insects to bring you awesome, autumn-time delicacies.

The aim of the first Pestaurant event held in North America was was to educate the public about pests while celebrating Ehrlich Pest Control, a Rentokil company, and their rich heritage in pest control – more than eight decades of helping to keep the Eastern region pest free. Experts from the local Washington, DC branch were on hand to offer valuable advice and top tips on how to avoid a pest infestation in your home or business and answer any pest-related concerns.
We aimed to motivate participants to being more adventurous with food and wanted to promote the health benefits of an insect rich diet already enjoyed by billions across the globe. Encouraged and promoted by the UN as a viable food source, eating insects (entomophagy) can enrich your diet with higher levels of protein, zinc and calcium - not to mention their low-in-fat status.
Ehrlich Pest Control donated $5 to DC Central Kitchen for every person who ate something at the event. Founded in 1989, DC Central Kitchen has prepared 25 million meals for low-income citizens in the nation's capital.
We served up an exotic cuisine, including a wide range of edible insects like crickets, meal worms and other savory delights.
